3 Email Marketing Tips: How to Grow Your Email List

If you would like to have an email marketing list but not sure where to start, or it isn’t growing as fast as you’d like, or even have one that you’re happy with but looking for new ways to build it, then you are in luck. Hey guys this is Alyssa with Bright Mind Marketing and today I’d like to talk a bit about email lists and a few ways on how you might go about growing it. First off, why might you want an email list in the first place?

  1. It gives you permission to bulk-email people. No spam, just useful stuff of course.
  2. People check their email often and every email should get delivered. If you’re currently marketing on social media, then you can’t guarantee everyone see whatever you’re promoting
  3. You OWN this list. If you have all your subscribers strictly on Facebook, then what happens if Facebook pulls the plug? Bye bye subscribers!

Today I’d like to share 3 tips on how to grow your email list, but don’t use these tips for evil, only use them for good. Okay? Promise? Let’s get started.

1. Ask people

It may sound silly, but sometimes all you need to do is ask people. Just say “Hey, do you receive my newsletter? Would you like to?” Let them know you’ll be providing helpful tips and whatnot, things that they will enjoy and help them.

Another thing you can do is provide a post-job satisfaction survey. In there you can have a question stating “Do you receive my newsletter? If not, would you like to?” This, for us, has a very high success rate.

2. Through your website

If you have a website and you’re getting traffic to it, get any traffic, chances are a lot of those people are leaving without contacting you. One of the thigns you can do is have a sticky bar at the top of your website that scrolls with the user, asking them to sign up with your newsletter. You can also have a pop-up box over the entire screen of your website, although not all find this desirable. You can also have a pop-up box in the corner.

If you want these cool features for free (the sticky bar, pop-up box and corner pop-up box, PLUS MORE!), then check out SumoMe. This is a plugin that is extremely easy to download and integrate. It’s also highly customizable. You can get this downloaded, installed and working in 5 minutes tops. We’ve installed this on multiple sites this month and it’s working quite wonderfully.

3. Give them something in exchange for opting in

NEWS FLASH! People hate giving up their email addresses. One thing you can do is offer them some sort of gift or tool in exchange for their email. We giveaway our measuring marketing effectiveness webinar. We put on this webinar a few months ago, so instead of putting it on once, now we can offer it again and again as a perk of signing up to our newsletter.

You can offer this giveaway anywhere as a means of getting people subscribed to your newsletter. You can offer this on not only your website, but also in your email signature and even in print. If you want to offer some sort of freebie through print materials, simply put an easy-to-follow URL on the marketing piece or even provide a QR code to scan.

Be sure to let people know that they can unsubscribe at any time, although if you’re providing useful information, most people won’t.
